CoinGecko MCP Integration

2 min read Updated May 21, 2026
Cryptocurrency prices, market caps, exchange volumes, and DEX analytics across 200+ blockchains from CoinGecko's public hosted MCP server.

CoinGecko is the most-used crypto market data aggregator — covering 200+ blockchains, thousands of tokens, every major DEX. Connecting CoinGecko to clariBI brings live crypto pricing and on-chain analytics into your AI analyses with zero setup (no API key required for the free tier).

Why connect CoinGecko

Crypto portfolio questions ("what was BTC volume on Coinbase vs Binance last week?") usually require dashboard hopping or notebooks.

With CoinGecko connected, you can ask "Top 10 tokens by 24h volume", "Compare ETH/USDC pool depth across DEXs", or "Bitcoin market cap trend YTD" and the AI engine routes through the public MCP — no key needed.

How the connection works

clariBI talks to CoinGecko through its hosted MCP server at https://mcp.api.coingecko.com/mcp. Authentication uses an API key you generate in your vendor account. Tokens stay encrypted server-side and never leave clariBI in clear form.

Available tools

clariBI exposes the read-only CoinGecko tools that the vendor's MCP server publishes at connection time. Write operations (create, update, delete, send, refund) are filtered out by a name-pattern blocklist before any tool reaches the analysis engine, so connecting CoinGecko cannot modify data on the vendor side.

The exact tool inventory depends on the CoinGecko features your account has access to. After connecting, try a few natural-language questions to see what CoinGecko data clariBI can pull.

Data flow during analysis

When you ask a question that maps to CoinGecko, the AI engine routes to the right tool, reads the result, and pairs the answer with a chart you can pin to a dashboard.

Setting up the connection

  1. Open Data Sources in the clariBI sidebar.
  2. Click Add data source.
  3. Open the MCP Servers tab.
  4. Click the CoinGecko card.
  5. In a new tab, sign in to CoinGecko and generate a read-only API key.
  6. Paste the key into clariBI and click Connect.
  7. Give your data source a name.
  8. Click Finish.

Permissions and data access

CoinGecko's free MCP endpoint is public read-only — no credentials are needed. The MCP server is rate-limited per-IP at the source. Pro-tier customers who need higher quotas should connect via the Custom MCP catalog row pointing at https://mcp.pro-api.coingecko.com/mcp.
