Morningstar MCP Integration

2 min read Updated May 21, 2026
Investment research, fund data, ratings, fair-value estimates, and 200,000+ global securities from Morningstar via the official hosted MCP server.

Morningstar is the investment-research platform many asset managers, advisors, and analyst teams use for fund data, ratings, and fair-value estimates. Connecting Morningstar to clariBI brings 200,000+ global securities, fund families, and analyst opinions into your AI analyses.

Why connect Morningstar

Investment research questions ("how have the Morningstar ratings shifted for our watchlist this quarter?") usually require Morningstar Direct's desktop UI.

With Morningstar connected, you can ask "Fair-value estimate for AAPL vs current price", "Show me funds with five-star ratings in the small-cap value category", or "Trend of Morningstar ratings for our holdings over 12 months" and the AI engine pulls the answer.

How the connection works

clariBI talks to Morningstar through its hosted MCP server at https://mcp.morningstar.com/mcp. Authentication uses an OAuth flow that clariBI registers itself for (no developer console setup on your side). Tokens stay encrypted server-side and never leave clariBI in clear form.

Available tools

clariBI exposes the read-only Morningstar tools that the vendor's MCP server publishes at connection time. Write operations (create, update, delete, send, refund) are filtered out by a name-pattern blocklist before any tool reaches the analysis engine, so connecting Morningstar cannot modify data on the vendor side.

The exact tool inventory depends on the Morningstar features your account has access to. After connecting, try a few natural-language questions to see what Morningstar data clariBI can pull.

Data flow during analysis

When you ask a question that maps to Morningstar, the AI engine routes to the right tool, reads the result, and pairs the answer with a chart you can pin to a dashboard.

Setting up the connection

  1. Open Data Sources in the clariBI sidebar.
  2. Click Add data source.
  3. Open the MCP Servers tab.
  4. Click the Morningstar card.
  5. Click Authorize with Morningstar.
  6. Sign in to Morningstar in the popup window and grant the requested read scopes.
  7. Back in clariBI, give your data source a name.
  8. Click Finish.

Permissions and data access

OAuth scoping is granted at authorize time on the Morningstar consent screen. Access requires an active Morningstar Direct subscription with MCP entitlement. clariBI requests read-only scopes.
