What you need
- A verified property in Google Search Console. URL-prefix properties (
https://example.com/) and domain properties (sc-domain:example.com) both work. - A Google account with at least restricted access to that property.
- A free data source slot on your plan (each property is one source). Search Console works on every plan.
Connect
- Click Data Sources in the sidebar (Settings > Integrations), then Add Data Source.
- Open Apps and choose Google Search Console.
- Click Connect and sign in with Google. clariBI asks only for read-only Search Console access (
webmasters.readonly). - Enter a Data Source Name and pick the property under Select Search Console Property. If the list is empty, the account has no verified property; verify one in Search Console first.
- Choose a Date Range: last 30 or 90 days, 6 or 12 months, or the maximum Google keeps (about 16 months).
- Optionally click Customize report types to sync only some of the six reports.
- Click Create Data Source.
The sync runs in the background. When it finishes, an insights dashboard for the property appears under AI Dashboards, without using AI credits. The Google integrations page in the documentation covers the other Google products that connect the same way.
The six reports
| Report | One row per | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Daily Overview | day for the whole property: clicks, impressions, CTR, average position | Totals and trends |
| Top Queries | search query per day | Which searches bring traffic |
| Top Pages | page URL per day | Which pages rank and earn clicks |
| Countries | country per day | Performance by market |
| Devices | device per day | Mobile, desktop and tablet |
| Search Appearance | appearance type per day | Rich results and other result types |
Each report is its own dataset, and clariBI keeps each calculation to one report so the same clicks are not counted twice.
Reading the numbers correctly
Use Daily Overview for totals. Google leaves out queries used by very few people to protect privacy. Those clicks and impressions are missing from Top Queries but included in Daily Overview, so the query rows add up to less than the property total. Use Top Queries for keyword-level detail, knowing the long tail is incomplete.
Average position is a weighted average. Position is averaged by impressions, and adding positions across rows means nothing. clariBI averages it instead of summing it, in dashboards and in answers.
Search Console lags two to three days. The latest days are not available from Google yet, and the most recent ones can still change. Small differences from the Search Console interface for those days are normal.
Keeping the data current
clariBI fetches recent days again when the data is more than 24 hours old and a question, report or dashboard refresh needs it, and adds them to the history it already has. To fetch at once, open the source in Settings > Integrations and click Sync Data.
Several properties
Connect each property as its own source. You can compare them in one question or put charts from both on a dashboard. Each property uses one data source slot.
Using the data
- Ask questions in Ask clariBI, for example "Which queries lost the most position in the last 30 days?" or "Which pages gained the most clicks this month compared with last month?" More are in 30 example questions.
- Generate SEO reports that combine Search Console with Google Analytics.
- Track a goal such as monthly clicks from organic search.
Troubleshooting
No verified Search Console properties found. The Google account you chose has no verified property. Verify a site in Search Console, or connect with the account that owns the property.
The Search Console permission was not granted. On Google's consent screen, keep the Search Console box ticked. Connect again if it was unticked.
Syncing stopped. Access was revoked in the Google account, or the user lost access to the property. Connect the property again; sync failures lists other causes, including Google API quotas.
Numbers differ from the Search Console interface. Compare the same dates, remember the reporting delay, and compare Daily Overview with the property total (not Top Queries).
