Prisma Postgres MCP Integration

2 min read Updated May 21, 2026
Managed PostgreSQL workspace, project, schema, and migration metadata from Prisma Postgres via the official hosted MCP server with OAuth 2.0.

Prisma Postgres is the managed Postgres-as-a-service from the Prisma team — designed for ORM-first development with built-in pooling and snapshot recovery. Connecting Prisma Postgres to clariBI surfaces every workspace, project, and schema into your AI analyses.

Why connect Prisma Postgres

Database-management questions ("which projects haven't had a migration in 30 days?") usually mean opening the Prisma console.

With Prisma Postgres connected, you can ask "List projects with their plan tier", "Show schema differences between dev and prod for project X", or "Which workspaces had the most queries this week?" and the AI engine pulls the answer.

How the connection works

clariBI talks to Prisma Postgres through its hosted MCP server at https://mcp.prisma.io/mcp. Authentication uses an OAuth flow that clariBI registers itself for (no developer console setup on your side). Tokens stay encrypted server-side and never leave clariBI in clear form.

Available tools

clariBI exposes the read-only Prisma Postgres tools that the vendor's MCP server publishes at connection time. Write operations (create, update, delete, send, refund) are filtered out by a name-pattern blocklist before any tool reaches the analysis engine, so connecting Prisma Postgres cannot modify data on the vendor side.

The exact tool inventory depends on the Prisma Postgres features your account has access to. After connecting, try a few natural-language questions to see what Prisma Postgres data clariBI can pull.

Data flow during analysis

When you ask a question that maps to Prisma Postgres, the AI engine routes to the right tool, reads the result, and pairs the answer with a chart you can pin to a dashboard.

Setting up the connection

  1. Open Data Sources in the clariBI sidebar.
  2. Click Add data source.
  3. Open the MCP Servers tab.
  4. Click the Prisma Postgres card.
  5. Click Authorize with Prisma Postgres.
  6. Sign in to Prisma Postgres in the popup window and grant the requested read scopes.
  7. Back in clariBI, give your data source a name.
  8. Click Finish.

Permissions and data access

OAuth scoping is granted at authorize time on the Prisma consent screen. clariBI requests read-only access to workspaces, projects, and schemas. No data can be created, migrated, or deleted. Disconnect from Prisma settings or from clariBI Settings.
