Connect Metals-API to clariBI with your access key to sync daily metal prices (gold, silver, platinum, base metals) for the symbols you choose, read-only, with auto-generated dashboards next to your business data.
What is Metals-API?
Metals-API is a metal-pricing API that publishes daily rates for precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum and palladium, plus base metals like copper, aluminium and zinc.
clariBI reads Metals-API through its REST API using your own access key: the daily price history for each metal symbol you choose, against a base currency you set. Access is read-only, and clariBI never changes anything in your account.
How to connect Metals-API
- Open Data Sources in clariBI. In clariBI, go to Data Sources → Add Data Source, find Metals-API, and paste your access key. The key is Fernet-encrypted at rest.
- Choose metals and history. Type the metal symbols to track (for example XAU for gold, XAG for silver), set the base currency, and choose how much history to pull. clariBI reads the prices read-only.
- Sync, then get dashboards. clariBI syncs the daily prices, preprocesses them, and builds an insights dashboard. Ask "How did the gold price track our input costs?" and the AI engine queries the synced prices alongside your spend.
What you can analyze
- Daily spot price per metal (gold, silver, platinum, and more) over your window
- Gold-to-silver ratio and relative moves across the metals you track
- Volatility in precious and industrial metal prices
- Period-over-period change in a metal price
- Metal price moves lined up with your procurement dates
- Cross-source: metal prices → input costs → margin
What gets synced
clariBI pulls the daily price history of the metals you select through the Metals-API timeseries endpoint, lands it as a preprocessed dataset, and refreshes it on your schedule. Access is read-only.
For each selected metal, clariBI syncs the daily rate against your base currency, then builds an insights dashboard you can query, extend, or pull into reports.
clariBI only ever reads. It never changes anything in your Metals-API account.
Questions across your other data
Once your records are synced, the AI engine can join them to the rest of your business data. A few examples:
| Pairing | Question | How clariBI answers |
|---|---|---|
| Metals-API × Costs | "How much of our cost rise was the metal price?" | Planner: read the daily metal price from Metals-API, align it to your material costs by date, and split the change into price versus volume. |
| Metals-API × Margin | "Did the silver run-up squeeze our product margin?" | Planner: read the silver price from Metals-API, join it to product margin by month, and flag the periods that moved together. |
