How to Export CSV Data from Xero and Import It into clariBI

Export CSV Data from Xero
Method 1: Export Accounting Reports
- Log in to your Xero account at login.xero.com
- Click Accounting (or Business depending on your region) in the top navigation bar
- Select Reports from the dropdown menu
- Choose the report you want to export (e.g., "Profit and Loss" or "Balance Sheet")
- Set your desired date range and any other filters at the top of the report
- Click Update to generate the report with your settings
- Click the Export button (located at the bottom of the report page)
- Select Excel, PDF, or Google Sheets from the export format options (note: CSV is not available for standard financial reports like Profit & Loss or Balance Sheet — CSV export is only available for certain data exports such as contacts, chart of accounts, and transactions)
- The file will download to your computer automatically
clariBI Tip: You can upload the exported Excel file directly into clariBI — there is no need to convert it to CSV first.
Method 2: Export Contacts
- From the top navigation, click Contacts and then select All Contacts
- Use the search bar or filter options to narrow your list if needed
- Click the Export button at the top of the contact list
- Choose CSV as the export format
- Your contact list will download as a CSV file
Method 3: Export Bank Transactions
- Navigate to Accounting (or Business) > Bank Accounts
- Click on the bank account you want to export transactions from
- Click the Account Transactions tab to view the transaction list
- Set your desired date range
- Click the Export button and select CSV
- The transaction list will download as a CSV file
Tips for Clean Exports
- Use the date range filters to limit data to the period you want to analyze — this keeps your CSV files manageable in size
- When exporting reports, choose the "Detail" view rather than "Summary" to get line-item data that clariBI can analyze more effectively
- Xero standard reports export to Excel, PDF, or Google Sheets — clariBI accepts Excel files directly, so no conversion is needed
Import Your Data into clariBI
- Log in to your clariBI account at claribi.com
- Click Data Sources in the left sidebar
- Click the + Add Source button (top right)
- Under Direct Upload, select CSV File
- Enter a descriptive name (e.g., "Xero - Bank Transactions Jan-Mar 2025")
- Click the upload area or drag and drop your CSV file
- Click Create Data Source
Once imported, you can ask clariBI questions like:
- "What is my average monthly operating expense this year?"
- "Show me my outstanding receivables by aging bucket"
- "How does this quarter's revenue compare to last quarter?"
