How to Export CSV Data from Square and Import It into clariBI

Learn how to export your transaction history, item sales, and reports from Square as CSV files and import them into clariBI for AI-driven business analysis.

Square is a popular point-of-sale and payment platform used by retail stores, restaurants, and service businesses. Exporting your Square data into clariBI lets you leverage AI to understand your sales patterns, best-selling items, peak selling times, and overall business performance.

Export CSV Data from Square

Method 1: Export Transactions

  1. Log in to your Square Dashboard at squareup.com/dashboard
  2. Click Transactions in the left-hand navigation menu
  3. Use the date range picker and filters at the top to select the period and transaction types you want
  4. Click the Export button (usually a download icon or the word "Export") near the top-right of the transaction list
  5. Select CSV as the export format
  6. The file will download to your computer with all visible transaction data

Method 2: Export Sales Reports

  1. From the left navigation, click Reports (or Reporting)
  2. Select the type of report you need, such as "Sales Summary" or "Sales by Item"
  3. Set the date range at the top of the report
  4. Look for the Export or Download CSV option, typically near the top-right corner
  5. Click it to download the report as a CSV file

Method 3: Export Item Library

  1. Navigate to Items (or Item Library) in the left sidebar
  2. You will see your full catalog of products and services
  3. Click the Actions button at the top of the list
  4. Select Export Library as CSV
  5. The item catalog will download as a CSV file with names, prices, SKUs, and categories

Method 4: Export Customer Directory

  1. Click Customers in the left navigation
  2. Review your customer list and apply any filters if needed
  3. Click the Export button at the top of the customer directory
  4. Choose CSV as the format
  5. The customer list will download to your computer

Tips for Clean Exports

  • Square's "Sales by Item" report is especially useful for product-level analysis — it breaks down quantity sold, gross sales, and net sales per item
  • If you have multiple Square locations, make sure to select the correct location from the location dropdown before exporting
  • Itemized transaction data is more useful than summary transaction data for clariBI analysis — choose the detailed export option when available

Import Your Data into clariBI

  1. Log in to your clariBI account at claribi.com
  2. Click Data Sources in the left sidebar
  3. Click the + Add Source button (top right)
  4. Under Direct Upload, select CSV File
  5. Enter a descriptive name (e.g., "Square - Sales by Item Q4 2024")
  6. Click the upload area or drag and drop your CSV file
  7. Click Create Data Source

Once imported, you can ask clariBI questions like:
- "What are my top 10 best-selling items by revenue?"
- "Which day of the week has the highest sales volume?"
- "Show me my average transaction value trend over the past 6 months"
