How to Export CSV Data from Hotjar and Import It into clariBI

2 min read Updated February 11, 2026
Export your Hotjar survey responses and feedback data as CSV and import it into clariBI to analyze user sentiment and website experience trends.

Hotjar (now part of Contentsquare as of July 2025) provides user behavior analytics through heatmaps, recordings, surveys, and feedback widgets. Navigation and feature names may differ for new customers on the Contentsquare platform. While heatmaps and recordings are visual tools, survey responses, feedback data, and event trends can be exported as CSV for analysis in clariBI.

What You Can Export from Hotjar

  • Survey responses with individual answer data
  • Feedback widget responses (ratings, comments, page URLs)
  • Trends event data (custom event counts and pageview metrics)
  • Survey response timestamps and completion rates
  • NPS (Net Promoter Score) responses and scores
  • User attributes attached to survey responses
  • Custom question responses (multiple choice, open text, rating scales)
  • Feedback emotion ratings (happy, neutral, sad, angry)

  2. Click Ask > Surveys in the left sidebar navigation
  3. Select the survey you want to export data from
  4. Click the Responses tab to view all collected responses
  5. Click the Download All button (typically at the top right of the responses list)
  6. Hotjar will generate and download a CSV file containing all response data including timestamps, answers, and any user attributes

Method 2: Export Feedback Data

  1. Navigate to Ask > Feedback in the left sidebar
  2. Select the feedback widget you want to export
  3. View the collected feedback entries with ratings and comments

Method 3: Export Trends (Events) Data

  1. Navigate to Observe > Trends in the left sidebar
  2. Set up or select the event metrics you want to analyze
  3. Set your desired date range
  4. Click the Export or download button to export event data
  5. This provides numeric event counts and pageview data over time

Tips for Clean Exports

  • Hotjar heatmaps and session recordings cannot be exported as CSV since they are visual data — focus on surveys, feedback, and trends for CSV exports
  • Survey exports include all questions as columns, making them ready for direct import into clariBI
  • For NPS surveys, the export will include the numeric score (0-10) for each respondent, which clariBI can easily analyze for trends

Import Your Data into clariBI
