Report Templates

Estimated reading time: 8 minutes

Templates define the structure, metrics, and analysis approach for a report. Instead of describing what you want from scratch, pick a template and let it guide the AI.

How Report Templates Work

Each template specifies:

  • The analysis objectives (what questions to answer)
  • Required data fields (what columns your data needs)
  • Metrics and KPIs to calculate
  • Chart types to generate
  • Output structure (sections, headings, format)

When you select a template and a data source, clariBI's AI uses the template as instructions for analyzing your data. The output is a structured report tailored to your actual numbers.

Finding Templates

Templates are accessible from two places:

  • Reports > Generate Report > Templates tab
  • Templates in the sidebar (the Template Marketplace shows both report and dashboard templates)

Use the category filter and search bar to narrow down. With 200+ templates, searching by keyword is often the fastest approach.

Template Quality

Templates vary in specificity. Some are broad ("Monthly Business Overview") and work with almost any data. Others are narrow ("Shopify Store Revenue Analysis") and expect specific column names. The template detail view shows required fields before you commit.

Pro Tip

If no template fits your exact need, use the closest one and add a custom instruction. For example, select "Monthly Sales Summary" but add the note: "Focus specifically on subscription revenue and exclude one-time purchases." The AI will adapt the template's structure to your instructions.

After Generating

Template-generated reports can be edited, reshared, scheduled for recurring runs, or exported. The template is just the starting configuration — each generated report is an independent document.
