Goal Templates

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

Not sure how to structure your goals? Use a template. Goal templates provide pre-configured names, descriptions, and metric types for common business objectives.

How Goal Templates Work

Goal templates are starting points. They define:

  • Goal name and description
  • Goal type (increase, decrease, maintain, etc.)
  • Category classification
  • Recommended data source connections

You fill in your specific target values, deadlines, and data sources. Each template shows its usage count and recommended data sources to help you choose.

Worked Example: Setting a Revenue Goal

Say you want "Reach $100K MRR by end of Q4". With templates:

  1. Pick the Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) Target template.
  2. The template pre-fills: name ("Monthly Recurring Revenue"), category ("Revenue & Sales"), goal type ("Reach"), and recommended sources (Stripe MCP, HubSpot MCP, application DB).
  3. You add: target = $100,000, deadline = 2026-12-31, priority = High.
  4. After save, link the goal to an MRR widget from one of the recommended sources (see Linking Goals to Data).
  5. From this moment on, the goal's current value updates every time Stripe syncs. No manual entry.

Tier Availability

Goal tracking is on every tier including Free. The full template library requires AI features (Trial / Starter+) because some templates use AI to suggest target values from your historical data. Free and Lite users can still create goals from scratch with their own target values.

Using a Template

  1. Go to Goals in the sidebar
  2. Switch to the Templates tab
  3. Browse the available templates - each shows its category, description, recommended sources, and usage count
  4. Click a template to create a goal based on it
  5. Fill in your specific values (target, deadline, priority)
  6. Click Create Goal

Pro Tip

Templates suggest milestones at 25%, 50%, and 75% of the target by default. Adjust these to match your real business checkpoints (e.g., quarterly milestones for an annual goal).
