Turn live spreadsheets into interactive dashboards and AI-powered reports. clariBI reads your data directly via the Sheets API, so your dashboards always reflect the latest content - no downloads or CSV exports needed.

OAuth-secured with spreadsheets.readonly and drive.readonly scopes. Automatic header detection, live sync, and 440+ ready-to-use analysis templates.

What is Google Sheets?

Google Sheets is a cloud-based spreadsheet application used by millions of teams to track sales, inventory, survey results, budgets, project timelines, and more. For many small and mid-size businesses, Sheets is the primary data management tool - flexible, collaborative, and free with any Google account.

The challenge is that spreadsheets are great for data entry but poor for analysis at scale. Pivot tables only go so far, and sharing static screenshots of charts with stakeholders is error-prone and time-consuming. clariBI solves this by connecting directly to your Sheets data and making it available to an AI engine that can answer questions, generate charts, and build dashboards automatically.

clariBI connects via OAuth with spreadsheets.readonly and drive.readonly scopes. It reads the spreadsheet metadata to determine the actual data range (rows and columns), then fetches all values using the Google Sheets API v4. Row 1 is used as column headers. Data syncs automatically, so your dashboards always show the latest spreadsheet content.

Unlike manual CSV exports that go stale the moment you download them, clariBI's live connection means your team always works with current data. Ask a question like "What were our top 5 sales reps this month?" and get an instant, chart-ready answer sourced directly from your spreadsheet.

How to connect Google Sheets to clariBI

The entire setup takes under two minutes. You just need a Google account with access to the spreadsheet you want to analyze.

1

Authorize your Google account

From your clariBI workspace, navigate to Data Sources and click + Add Data Source. Select Google Sheets from the list. clariBI will open a Google OAuth consent screen requesting spreadsheets.readonly and drive.readonly access. Approve the permissions to continue.

2

Provide the spreadsheet ID

Paste the spreadsheet URL or ID. The ID is the long string in the URL between /d/ and /edit. clariBI validates that your OAuth token has access to this spreadsheet before proceeding.

3

Data syncs instantly

clariBI reads the sheet metadata (row count, column count, sheet names) via the Sheets API v4, fetches all values from the first sheet, and uses row 1 as column headers. The data is cached locally for fast querying. Subsequent syncs happen automatically so your dashboards stay current.

4

Build dashboards and ask questions

Your spreadsheet data is now available for conversational analytics, 440+ analysis templates, and auto-generated data insight dashboards. Ask questions in plain English and get instant, chart-ready answers sourced from your live spreadsheet.

What you can analyze

Once connected, your spreadsheet data becomes a first-class data source for clariBI's full suite of analytics features.

  • Any tabular data in your spreadsheet

Sales trackers, budget sheets, inventory lists, survey responses, project plans - if it has rows and columns, clariBI can analyze it.

  • Live data that re-syncs automatically

Dashboards update as your spreadsheet changes. No need to re-upload or manually refresh.

  • Automatic header detection from row 1

clariBI reads the first row as column names and uses them to label charts, tables, and AI-generated insights.

  • Read-only access (your sheet is never modified)

clariBI only requests read permissions. Your spreadsheet data is never changed, deleted, or written to.

  • 440+ pre-built analysis templates

Finance, sales, marketing, operations - choose from 440+ templates across 30 business categories and apply them to your spreadsheet data.

  • Automated dashboard generation

After connecting, clariBI auto-generates a starter dashboard from your spreadsheet data - ready to share with your team in seconds.

  • Combine with other data sources in one dashboard

Mix spreadsheet data with database, API, or file-based data sources in a single unified dashboard.

  • Export results as PDF, CSV, or Excel

Generate polished reports from your spreadsheet data and export them in the format your stakeholders prefer.

Sales Tracking

Connect a team sales tracker spreadsheet and get automatic revenue dashboards, pipeline summaries, and rep performance charts. Ask "Who closed the most deals this quarter?" and get an instant answer.

Budget Management

Visualize budget vs. actuals, department spending, and monthly burn rates from your finance spreadsheets. Spot overruns early with trend analysis and automated alerts.

Survey Results (Google Forms)

Connect Google Forms response sheets and instantly see response distributions, trends over time, and cross-tabulations. Turn raw survey data into presentation-ready insights.

Inventory Tracking

HR & Recruiting

Visualize hiring pipelines, candidate sources, and time-to-hire from recruiting tracker sheets. Build headcount and attrition dashboards that update as your team grows.

Security & requirements

Your spreadsheet data stays safe. Here is how clariBI protects your Google Sheets connection and what you need to get started.

Security measures

  • OAuth 2.0 with minimal scopes

clariBI requests only spreadsheets.readonly and drive.readonly. No write, delete, or share permissions are ever requested.

  • Encrypted token storage

OAuth refresh tokens are stored with Fernet symmetric encryption at rest. The encryption key is managed separately from the data store.

  • Read-only access guaranteed

clariBI never writes to your spreadsheets. The readonly OAuth scopes make it technically impossible for clariBI to modify your data.

  • Revocable at any time

You can revoke clariBI's access from your Google account settings at any time. Revoking the token immediately stops all data syncing.

  • Audit logging

All data access and sync events are logged in clariBI's audit trail, visible to workspace administrators at any time.

Prerequisites

  • Google account

Any Google account (personal or Google Workspace) with access to the spreadsheet you want to connect.

  • Spreadsheet format

Your spreadsheet should have column headers in row 1. Data should be in a tabular format (no merged cells or pivot tables). clariBI reads the first sheet by default.

  • Spreadsheet access

Your Google account must have at least Viewer access to the spreadsheet. Shared spreadsheets work as long as your account can open them.

  • Size limits

clariBI reads up to the actual data range detected in the sheet. Very large spreadsheets (100,000+ rows) will sync but may take longer on the initial import.

  • No software installation

Everything runs in the browser. No extensions, plugins, or desktop software required on your end.
