The universal data source

File upload is the fastest way to get data into clariBI. Every tool you use can export to CSV or Excel: CRM reports, accounting exports, marketing data, survey results, inventory lists, or any other tabular data. If it fits in a spreadsheet, clariBI can analyze it.

clariBI accepts CSV, TSV, Excel (.xlsx), JSON, and XML files. When you upload a file, clariBI automatically detects the format, identifies column headers, infers data types (dates, numbers, text, booleans), and creates a clean, queryable dataset. For CSV files, delimiter detection handles commas, semicolons, tabs, and pipes without any manual configuration.

Once your data is imported, clariBI's AI preprocessor analyzes the dataset and automatically generates data insight dashboards with relevant charts and KPIs. You can then use conversational analytics to ask follow-up questions, build custom dashboards, and generate reports.

How to upload files to clariBI

The entire process takes under a minute. No connectors to configure, no credentials to manage, no network setup required.

Open Data Sources and click "Add Data Source"

From your clariBI workspace, navigate to Data Sources in the left sidebar. Click the + Add Data Source button in the top-right corner of the page. You will see a categorised list of all supported integrations.

Select "File Upload"

Under the Files category, click the File Upload tile. The upload area will open, ready to accept your file.

Drag-and-drop your file

Drop a CSV, Excel, JSON, TSV, or XML file into the upload area, or click to browse. clariBI detects the file format automatically. For CSV files, delimiter detection handles commas, semicolons, tabs, and pipes without any manual configuration.

    Uploaded files are stored with encryption at rest in clariBI's secure storage infrastructure. Files are isolated per organization and never shared across workspaces.

  • TLS in transit

    All file uploads are transmitted over HTTPS with TLS encryption. Your data is protected from the moment you drag it into the browser until it reaches clariBI's servers.

  • Organization-level isolation

    Each organization's files are stored in isolated containers. Only authenticated members of your workspace can access uploaded data.

  • Audit logging

    All file uploads, deletions, and queries are logged in clariBI's audit trail, visible to workspace administrators at any time.

  • RBAC access controls

    Control which team members can upload, view, and query file-based data sources using clariBI's role-based access control system (Professional plan and above).

How it works

  • Format auto-detection

    clariBI reads the file header and content to determine the format (CSV, TSV, Excel, JSON, XML) without relying on the file extension alone.

  • Delimiter detection

    For CSV files, clariBI automatically detects the delimiter (comma, semicolon, tab, pipe) by analyzing the first rows of the file.

  • Column type inference

    Dates, numbers, percentages, currencies, booleans, and text are detected automatically. You can override detected types before confirming the import.

  • Header identification

    clariBI detects whether the first row contains column headers or data. If headers are missing, clariBI generates descriptive column names automatically.

  • AI-powered preprocessing

    After import, clariBI's AI engine analyzes your data and generates data insight dashboards with charts and KPIs tailored to your dataset.
