Dashboard Builder: Complete Guide

Accessing Dashboard Builder

Creating New Dashboard

  1. Go to Dashboards
  2. Click Create Dashboard
  3. Choose creation method:
    - Template: Start from pre-built template
    - Custom: Build from scratch
    - AI-Assisted: Describe what you want

Builder Interface

Layout

  • Canvas: Main dashboard area (center)
  • Widget Panel: Available widgets (right)
  • Settings Panel: Widget configuration (right)
  • Toolbar: Actions and options (top)

Navigation

  • Drag widgets to canvas
  • Click widget to configure
  • Right-click for context menu
  • Use toolbar for global actions

Adding Widgets

Widget Types

  • Metric Card: Single KPI display
  • Line Chart: Trends over time
  • Bar Chart: Comparisons
  • Pie Chart: Proportions
  • Table: Detailed data
  • Map: Geographic data
  • Text: Notes and labels

Adding a Widget

  1. Click widget type in panel
  2. Drag to desired position
  3. Configure data source
  4. Set visualization options
  5. Save widget

Configuring Widgets

Data Configuration

  • Data Source: Select connected source
  • Metric: Choose field to display
  • Aggregation: Sum, average, count, etc.
  • Filters: Limit data shown

Visual Configuration

  • Title: Widget header
  • Colors: Chart colors
  • Format: Number formatting
  • Size: Widget dimensions

Layout Management

Grid System

Dashboard uses responsive grid:
- 12 columns on desktop
- Widgets snap to grid
- Minimum 2-column width

Arranging Widgets

  • Drag: Move to new position
  • Resize: Drag edges/corners
  • Stack: Widgets don't overlap

Layout Tips

  • Important KPIs at top
  • Related widgets grouped
  • Consistent widget sizes
  • White space for readability

Dashboard Settings

General Settings

  • Name: Dashboard title
  • Description: Purpose and contents
  • Niche Domain: Industry category
  • Refresh Frequency: Auto-refresh interval

Filters

Add dashboard-level filters:
- Date range selector
- Category filter
- Custom filter fields

Saving and Publishing

Save Draft

  • Click Save to save progress
  • Dashboard remains private
  • Continue editing anytime

Publish

  1. Click Publish
  2. Set visibility options
  3. Choose who can view
  4. Dashboard goes live
